Known before for its drug trafficking and its high crime rate, Medellín, metropolis about 4 million inhabitants, was radically transformed within 10 years.
The exhibition of urbanization of Medellín society tells the story of an exemplary metamorphosis led by the municipal teams of Sergio Fajardo and Alonso Salazar convinced that the architecture and the town planning are the vectors of a deep social transformation. A crédo " the most beautiful for the humble "; a requirement, the speed; a tool, the " complete urban project "!
The confidence has brushed of the skepticism. In 9 years, the whole city has metamorphosed: Metrocable became, besides a means of transportation in the service of the urban inclusion, a rarity for the tourists; the library of Spain, a symbol of the essential place granted to the education, … and the public places convenient to the social life.
Conceived by the French Agency of Development and the Medellín municipality, the exhibition returns, through the symbolic architectural and urban projects, the analyses and the testimonies, on this unprecedented transformation and announces the perspectives among which the Organic plan 2030, the strategic vision of the urbanization of the valley of Aburra, developed with the Parisian workshop of town planning.
