The exhibition entitled "Berlin Denkmall oder denkmodel", presented in Berlin in September 1988 and organized by the Berlin Senate and Kristin Feireiss, was an instant national and international success.
Paris, linked to Berlin by a friendship and cooperation agreement, decided to take up the challenge and to show the visions of its future as seen by 50 architects.
Architects from fourteen different counties freely expressed their visions of the Paris of the future, with total freedom to choose the medium for presentation of their schemes. Through the objectivity of a place and a piece of a city, it was the architect's subjectivity that spoke - as a builder, draughtsman, inventor, and heir to a culture and a city.
Each scheme represented a hypothesis, in the scientific meaning of the word: accepted provisionally in order to materialize a singular perception of the city, and not a final element or goal of this perception.
This was the aim of the exhibition : to provide new energy and explore new paths.
