This exhibition aimed to show the public major urban and architectural features such as Avenue de Mayo in Buenos Aires, Benjamin Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia, Rue Bab Azoun in Algiers, the Metro in Mexico City, and El Esbekieh Garden in Cairo, which are examples of how Paris has inspired planners throughout the world that also demonstrate how foreign cultures contribute to the development of cities and to the writing of history.
From the medieval city to the city transformed by Haussmann and his successors, the castles, cathedrals, mansions, royal squares, boulevards, open spaces and the Metro of Paris have been emulated around the world, and certain major public buildings such as the Opera and the Eiffel Tower have served as models.
In what form are these models and this know-how exported today?
The exhibition provided an answer to this question, documenting the international presence of certain major public services, large engineering and design firms from the Paris area, and the growing role played abroad by some of Paris's current architects.
