Immediate future

thirty-six diplomas for the metropole Paris

20 February 2014 - 04 May 2014 Scientific curator : Aurélien Gillier

What are the ambitions of the architects of tomorrow for the Parisian metropolis? What imagination do they develop for Big Paris? By gathering thirty-six prospective and stimulating projects at the end of studies, Immediate future paints a portrait of a multifaceted generation.

To all extent, these young architects make a commitment on territories where the architecture often has no grip. Around the highway A86, on a parking lot of supermarket, in the suburban zones, in the historic districts, every proposal takes the territorial complex realities as immediate opportunities. To repair a big set, to urbanize a housing estate by suggesting a collective swimming pool, to invest a " hollow Parisian tooth " in climatic fitness gym, to fit a zoo in the Seine, to reconvert a former industrial site in data-center or to dig a pit of scuba diving in Defense slab. These architects also question the big metropolitan chanllenges in an uninhibited movement. At the front of the Seine, in Bobigny, in Clichy-Sous-Bois, in new towns, the intrinsic qualities of these spaces of the modernity are revealed, their problems adapted by impulses in grip with the current events, to invent other next days.

These works reveal large-scale analyses for the territory, the pragmatic and disturbing attitudes, developing a set of cyclical solutions in answer to the current urban, technological and economic transformations.

Stemming from Superior National Parisian Schools of Architecture, these works testify of privileged moment, that of the degree in architecture. Transitional five-year apprenticeship, the diploma is a personal and critical commitment with the discipline. Space of freedom was untied from the command, it commits sometimes long-lasting way innovative avenues for reflection.

Of the Latin Awarded a diploma, " official document presented on a page folded in two ", to the diploma made also reference to format, to a medium. Aurélien Gillier (critic of architecture and teacher the Graduate school of Architecture of Lyon), curator of the exhibition, attempts to present the plurality of the current architectural approaches. Every approach calls on to a production of specific elements which document the project: plan, drawing, model, report, diagram, parallel perspective, movie are worked as so many singular mediums which carry in their shape, the essence of the project, to allow us to envisage these Immediate Future.
