WikiHouse

Construction system open source

from 16 October to 26 December 2014

Construction system Open Source, thanks to the digital technology, it allows all the people to download the models which are known by the architects, to modify and "to print" the elements of wood (furniture, model, shelter, house) assembled without advanced knowledge in construction.

WikiHouse is based on accessible materials, widely available as 18mm plywood which allows to generate digital documents with digital controls ( CNC).

The numerous elements are then assembled in the style of a kit IKEA. They interlock by holds and ankles. Even the used mallets come from cut patches.
Without particular knowledge of construction, a team of 3 people can assemble a frame as this one in one day.

The concern would be to develop open solutions besides the construction of structure, as for windows, management of the energy, the water …

The opening is infinite: every developed solution is shared and becomes the base from which others could improve and adapt. In a century of exponential urbanization, this platform could modify radically our relation with construction. It begins now with modest and concrete realizations on the scale of a world community.

Imagine that we develop a library of open, accessible, modifiable products. Belonging to nobody, it is accessible to all, a kind of " Wikipedia of things ".
