Were does architecture goes?
Lesson #03 : mass

Volume remains at the heart of the modern issue; as Le Corbusier stated, "Architecture is the learned game, correct and magnificent, of forms assembled in the light." And yet it is mass which fascinates contemporaries: big is beautiful! Those things which are at the limit of what is manageable are desirable. The non-malleable, the unformed and generic are what interests us; all the organizations which purport to be self-contained worlds with their own rituals, codes as well as pathologies and degradations. The bigness put forth by Rem Koolhaas as well as the planned Paris Philharmonic by Jean Nouvel can be interpreted as symptoms of this new state of affairs.
