HAITI TOMORROW
Watch the video of Patrick Coulombel, President of the Emergency Architects Foundation

Patrick Coulombel, President of The Emergency Architects Foundation came to the Pavillon de l'Arsenal to give a detailed count of the current situation in Haiti with an exceptional photographic report, while explaining the factors that have rendered this earthquake so extraordinarily devastating. He presented the main objectives of The Emergency Architects Foundation: to bring security to the people and aid to the victims.

Since 2001 The Emergency Architects Foundation, composed of architects, engineers and planners, has been using their combined professional expertise with the goal of bringing appropriate and sustainable help to all victims of natural disasters or conflicts.

After having traveled through the damage-stricken zones in Haiti, the Emergency Architects have concluded that “The objective of urgent priority was to be able to evaluate the damages to secure a maximum of buildings, determining their conditions and if they are dangerous or not, while also providing a response allowing rapid reinforcement concerning the relief and rescue teams, and to provide proper care to those injured.

The general goal is to reestablish a normalcy of the Port au Prince area and to guarantee the security of lodging to families affected by this devastating catastrophe.

The security of the people is, in effect, the principal problem that needs to be addressed in the densely constructed neighborhoods where buildings that are destroyed or structurally damaged might collapse into a street full of people, or the alleyways and open spaces where people are sleeping.

Another danger arises from an elevated risk of mudslides in the surrounding and damp shantytowns. This danger is particularly imminent and continuous rescue responses are of utmost importance as the rainy seasons approach.

Since January 21st, the Emergency Architects have been working in Haiti on evaluation projects for securing and reinforcing structures while also concentrating on relief projects aiding the reconstruction of hospital centers, schools and housing.”
