To consume more "matière grise" to consume less "raw material": one of this work's goals which calls for collective intelligence to reconsider our use of material in architecture.

14 essays, 13 interviews and 75 projects demonstrate the potential of the re-use and the possibility of a new life for materials used in all the batches of the building.. In Brussels, the second hand bricks build today's pavillon; in the Massachusetts, the porticos of a motorway viaduct structure a villa; in Saint-Denis, the bardage refused by a shopping mall wraps however prestigious contemporary national Academy of circus arts; in Madrid, the tiles of yesterday enclose and transform an avant-garde cultural place; in Bali, hundreds of slatted windows covers a hotel; in Alabama, 72 000 carpet tiles constitue Lucy's house; even the future seat of the European council in Brussels adorns itself with a facade compound of 3 000 collected windows … The re-use opens an immense catalog of possible.

"Grey matter" puts the act to build as a current events susceptible to develop the architecture, replace the architect in the center of the cycle of the material and interrogates all the jobs by the building: engineers, technical auditors, industrialists, insurers, construction companies, private and public clients.

And if to build passed at first by the re-use of the materials which exist by finding them a second life?
